There should be $59 million in home sales per week in Manteca in 1999, say experts
It's ironic that retail construction is the only bright spot in Manteca's revenue outlook for the fiscal year ending July 1 despite a projected deficit of more than $113 million. The retail sales revenue dropped 12 percent from the previous year.

On Thursday, Yellow Freight Systems revealed plans for a truck terminal on the east side of MacArthur Road (Interstate 205), putting an end to speculation it would move there. The firm had proposed building a 230-dock distribution terminal near Main Street south of the Manteca Bypass in October.

In a meeting of the city council Tuesday night, City Attorney J. R. Scott read a contract awarded to Mario DePaoli for hauling city garbage. As of October 3, the contract is valid for 10 years. In the contract, DiPaoli has the exclusive right to collect garbage in the city.

Levee construction prospects for the land north of the Stanislaus River, south of Manteca, against flood waters look exceedingly bright, according to a report made by E. C. Woodruff and Guss Schmiedt at a meeting of the directors of the local chamber of commerce Tuesday night. In a previous meeting, President E. Powers appointed E. C. Woodruff, W. J. Woodward, and E. E. Douglass to assist in any way they can.
A rapid spread of influenza has led to drastic measures by the city trustees. An ordinance was prepared by City Attorney J. R. Scott and passed to an adjourned meeting on Tuesday. The city health board, with approval from the city's physicians, prohibits all gatherings such as church meetings, lodges, pool rooms, and all public gatherings.
